Our Approach

"Where Your Story Matters"

We believe that the foundation of a quality life depends on having quality relationships whether that be with ourselves or those who are extensions of ourselves. When our relationships suffer, we suffer. The Trauma & Therapy Center of Tennessee, PLLC (Trauma Therapy TN) exists to address and repair ruptured relationships and the wounding that occurred as a result of those ruptured relationships. By doing so, you are free to create or re-establish a healthy connection to yourself, your loved ones, and the world. We are a dedicated group of trauma-competent (because trauma-informed only scratches the surface) counselors and therapists who are passionate about helping our clients heal and reach their goals. Whether you are an individual feeling “stuck” in life and challenged by your past or a teen feeling misunderstood and confused about the future, we want to help! Perhaps you’re a couple wanting to strengthen your relationship, address difficulties, or heal from the effects of substance abuse or an affair; or a family working to navigate the boundaries of a blended family? Regardless of the reason for seeking professional help, we have compassionate humans with real life experience who want to help.  Trauma Therapy TN exists to help you and your loved ones address what needs to be addressed so you can move on and live your life in a meaningful way!

Trauma & Therapy Center of Tennessee, PLLC adheres by the following guiding treatment principles:

  • Problems occur in context. To understand and solve a person's problem, we must understand the situation in which it arises.

  • Without adequate understanding and resources to assist with change, we are bound to repeat what we fail to repair, no matter how hard we try prevent it.

  • People are usually doing the best they can with what they have given the situation as they see it. If they are making mistakes, it is because they are stuck and unable to see and/or commit to the process in order to get unstuck.

  • All pain is valid and purposeful and therefore, it needs to be both validated and understood.

  • People need concrete, practical help solving their problems. Validating head nods aren’t generally enough to get someone unstuck.  Specific suggestions about how to make changes are often useful.

  • The key to evidenced based care is ensuring that you are getting a return on your investment. By getting a baseline and tracking outcomes, we become accountable to our clients for the care we provide.

  • The therapist/client relationship is the single most important aspect of therapy as it’s the best the predictor of having desired therapeutic outcomes.

  • All current behaviors and attitudes were once adaptive or helpful…Yes, even the destructive ones…

  • Trauma-competent therapy is the key to understanding experiences, without becoming flooded, overwhelmed, or re-traumatized when addressing painful events.

  • As trauma-competent counselors and therapists, safety is a top priority. We believe our clients need a felt sense of physical and emotional safety in the therapy process before healing can occur.

  • Pacing protects the process and prioritizes safety. We understand that some are ready to get to the root of pain, while others are need a significant amount of time to build trust, and most are somewhere in between. We meet clients where they are and provide the resources needed BEFORE we do the trauma work.

Creating Connections That Heal . . .

Why Choose Us?

Our clients choose the Trauma & Therapy Center of TN, PLLC  because they want to explore the areas of rupture (pain) in their lives and they want to repair (heal) these ruptures and restore what was lost in the process. We seek to create a supportive, inclusive, healing environment so you don’t have to go it alone.

Our Client-Centered Values: We Do “REAL”

We Achieve Our Client-Centered Values with Our Core Company Values: Radical Authenticity, Exceptionality, and Intentionality.

{R}EAL Relationships:

At the heart of the healing process is the relationship you have with yourself, your pain, and your story. The rupture (pain) you present with likely occurred in the context of a relationship of some sort; therefore, the repair (healing) is fostered in the presence of a secure, trusting relationship. Our counselors and therapists take this job seriously by adhering to our company value of Radical Authenticity, which means they show up as the people they are without compromising professionalism. They operate with congruence both personally and professionally to foster authentic relationships with their clients. They also understand the vulnerability and courage it takes to share your story and the time it takes to build a trusting relationship with a stranger. We pace therapy in a way that honors this at all times.

R{E}AL Empowerment through Engagement:

Therapy shouldn’t leave you feeling disconnected and judged nor should it feel one-sided as if you show up and talk about all your feelings while a “professional” stares at you from across the room giving silent head nods (doesn’t align with being Radically Authentic) asking you “how does that make you feel?” Feelings are fickle and frequently overrated or under-managed. We don’t want you to feel held back by them. We want therapy to be a process of empowerment where you are engaged with your counselor or therapist in a helpful way so that you can learn how to engage and manage your feelings in a healthy way.

RE{A}L Awareness and Appreciation:

When you know better, you do better.. This sounds great, but it’s only somewhat true. Awareness is powerful and should be handled with care. Awareness is just the beginning of change; however, we value the power of self-awareness in the healing process. Oftentimes, our clients are too aware of “what” they do rather than “how” they got there and “why” it was needed at one time. They are often lacking the skills to harness that awareness in a way that allows for meaningful integration and appreciation. This is just one example of how our counselors and therapists adhere to our company value of “Intentionality.” We seek to ensure that our clients have a clear awareness of their patterns, whether helpful or destructive, and we assist them with ways to shift those patterns, understand and appreciate the role they served, and empower them with evidence based tools to do that in their daily lives.

REA{L} Life on Purpose:

Pain is inevitable, but misery is optional. We want to help you find or reclaim your purpose and redefine the meaning associated with the painful parts of your story so you can go out and live your life with confidence, joy, and freedom. Real life lived warrants real pain which requires real healing and a renewed sense of purpose with your story!

We Help You Do Different…

REAL . . . It's who we are, it’s how we show up with clients and it's what we value . . .

Real Professionals . . .

We want to BE THE EXCEPTION when it comes to trauma-competent care. Real Personal Power . . .

Pain is powerful and universal to us all. It demands attention. We value your pain and the power it harnesses in your life. We specialize in identifying its root causes and how it shows up for you in your day-to-day. We will help you explore more effective ways to manage that pain and hopefully resolve it or reduce its daily impact so you can stand in your personal power from a place of freedom!

Real Post-traumatic Purpose . . .

We believe that your pain has a purpose. Perhaps it was caused by another or a circumstance.. Perhaps it was a result of your choices. Perhaps there’s no real sensible explanation for it at all. Even still, we want to help you understand that YOU have a purpose not only in life, but also in this season. Post-traumatic growth is a powerful way to reclaim your story!

Real Progress and Peace . . .

We value your growth and your goals. It’s important to us that you are able to see the changes that you sought us to help you with. Whether it’s improvement in a relationship, relief from anxiety, resolution around a past trauma, practical skills to help you raise your teen, or an increase in athletic performance or business venture, we want to ensure that YOU see your growth! We value the lives of all human beings and believe that all deserve a felt sense of peace regardless of their past experiences. You are not what happened to you.. You cannot go back and change what happen to you.. You CAN heal and regain a sense of peace and we will work to help you find out what that means to you and how to get there!
