Meet Shawn – Direct, Wise, and Grounded Support for Real-Life Healing
If you're looking for a therapist who is direct, down-to-earth, and genuinely invested in getting to know you before diving into the deeper work—Shawn may be the counselor you’ve been searching for. He brings a rare combination of authenticity, insight, and lived experience to the therapy room, creating a space where you can finally exhale, feel seen, and begin the process of healing. With a calm presence and a touch of humor, Shawn helps clients face even the hardest things with courage and clarity.
Shawn is passionate about working with adults navigating complex trauma, life transitions, military-related stress, and the quiet pain of carrying burdens alone. As a retired Army Veteran, he has a deep understanding of what it means to hold things in, to perform under pressure, and to need somewhere safe to land. Whether you're facing long-standing emotional wounds or wrestling with more recent life changes, Shawn is here to meet you with respect, honesty, and unwavering presence.
In the therapy space, Shawn helps clients move toward insight and healing by first creating connection. He takes time to understand who you are—your story, your strengths, and your pain—so that the work you do together is both personal and transformative. His philosophy is simple: “We all need a place where we can lay down the heavy things we carry. Therapy is that place—a space for truth-telling, laughter, and growth.”
Clients often describe Shawn as wise, steady, and real. He has a gift for helping people relax and feel comfortable, even when the work is hard. Whether you’re here to process trauma, improve relationships, or rediscover your own strength—Shawn offers a partnership that’s rooted in respect and results.
Shawn works with:
Veterans, service members, and military families seeking trauma-informed, culturally competent care
Adults facing complex trauma, grief, or long-term emotional pain
Individuals in life transitions who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn
Clients looking for a therapist who combines practical wisdom, grounded presence, and authentic care
Shawn brings a lifetime of leadership and service to his role as a clinician. Before becoming a therapist, he served in the Army, where he developed not just tactical skill but emotional insight—supporting others in their darkest moments. His path into counseling was a natural one, rooted in faith, lived experience, and a call to help people step out of survival mode and into lives they don’t have to run from.
He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Austin Peay State University, a Master’s Degree in Christian Ministry Leadership from Liberty University, and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grace College and Seminary.
Outside the Therapy Room
When he’s not helping clients navigate life’s toughest challenges, you’ll find Shawn in his workshop shaping steel, in a field or pond looking admiring the deer and ducks, or smoking something delicious on the grill. A skilled blacksmith and woodworker, he brings creativity and craftsmanship into every part of his life—just as he brings patience, presence, and purpose into the therapy space.
Shawn is an INFJ-A (“The Advocate”) on the Myers-Briggs—one of the rarest personality types, especially among men—and an Enneagram Type 8 (“The Challenger”), with a tritype of 8-3-5, known as “The Solution Master.” This powerful mix of advocacy, insight, and strategic thinking shows up in every session as he helps clients feel understood and empowered.
